Go-To Cat Woman Halloween Costume

Spooky enough for you?  Happy Halloween ladies!  Or soon-to-be…

I wanted to put together an outfit, hair and makeup tutorial for you ladies that may be in a bind to find a last minute Halloween costume.  I am cat woman for Halloween A LOT.  Why?  Well, it’s cheap, sexy, and EASY to do!  Did I go and purchase a $50 cat woman costume?  No, why would I do that?  Cat woman is easy.  Liquid leggings, leather, and high heels are IN right now so throwing together a last minute cat woman costume is about as easy as it gets.  Here is what mine consists of…

  • Cat woman ears plus mask
  • Liquid leggings
  • Leather peplum top
  • Black high heels
  • A sleek hairstyle and cute braid
  • Dark Makeup

Now that you know what my costume looks like, how about a hair tutorial?  Check out this YouTube video below.

I wanted this hairstyle to be sleek, which is why I wanted it straight.  I now have Bellami Hair Extensions that are SUPER long so I did end up curling the bottom of the hair so that my natural hair blended well.  I pulled back the front in a sleek style and pinned it underneath the chunk of hair that I teased then put into a fishtail braid.  Of course I had to include a braid in my cat woman hairstyle!  Now on to makeup…

I recently learned how to do somewhat of a Smokey eye that I am extremely pleased with.  I also learned that I can use this same technique with different eyeshadow shades and end up with a gorgeous look.  This is an easy look because I literally used a total of 5 eyeshadow/liner products on my eyes.  The key is to blend, blend, blend.  Blend until your eyelid hurts because if you don’t, you WILL look like you have a black eye.  Honestly, this look stays pretty ugly until I get a full face of makeup on.   I start out the YouTube video below with a completely clean face.  I never apply my foundation, concealer, or anything else until I finish my eyes because of the fall-out of the eyeshadow.  Here are the steps below so that you can skip around the video instead of watching every step.

  1. Eye primer – This step isn’t included in my video, but I used a primer from Urban Decay Cosmetics.
  2. I put tape on the sides of my eyes to help me achieve a more dramatic look.
  3. Apply an eyeshadow that is around the same color as your skin over the primer.  I learned this from “Batalash Beauty”.  It helps smooth out the primer to give a nice, clean slate to start.
  4. Start with a transition color in your crease.  I started with a brownish/orange color.  For a blacked out Smokey look, I transition from browns to black.  I am using the Morphed 35N palette for this entire look.
  5. Next, I used a brown transition color a little beneath the orange and piled it on in the outer corner of my eye.
  6. I then took a black Urban Decay pencil and (sloppily) applied this to my upper lash-line.  I blend that color upward toward my crease.  Blend, Blend, Blend!
  7. Take a black shadow and blend all over the lid focusing heavily on the outer corners.
  8. Line the lower waterline of the eye and smudge down and out.
  9. With your smudge brush, take a brown shadow and smudge and blend along the lower lash-line.
  10. Apply a thin line of eyeliner on top of eyelid.
  11. Apply a highlight to upper brow and inner corners of eyes.
  12. Apply mascara and lashes and your done!

You can get a better idea of what I am doing in my YouTube video.  I don’t have a full face of makeup until the very end, which kind of pulls the whole thing together! It’s over 8 minutes long, so skip around and hopefully you can learn.

Hopefully you learned something that you can try on your own today. I promise, at some point I will invest in a better camera so that my tutorials will be higher quality. One day, one day. =)

I hope you all have a HAPPY and SAFE Halloween! Muah!

Braid Tutorial From My “Fall Look”

Oh my gosh I swear I cringe every time I hear myself talk in a video!  I really am not that boring in real life!  I am just HORRIBLY camera shy and do so much better with a script.  Maybe I should start doing that… Make myself a script!  I tell my husband all the time that I am never going to get a part as a “walker” on my fave show The Walking Dead if I can’t even do a voice over for my tutorials!  AHH!  By the way, if you know where I can go or what I can do to audition for a walker part on TWD, let a girl know.  Put me in a herd.  I don’t need any camera time, just want to be there!  No, seriously.  Anyway!  On to the braid…

I had several of you ask me about this braid and I’m so glad you liked it!  I promise you it’s the easiest thing ever.  Don’t be a perfectionist with this either because it is supposed to be messy.  Here are the steps:

Step 1: Comb your hair out and pull it all to one side.  You can wear your hair in the middle or parted to the side.  I did use extensions on this braid by the way.

Step 2: Divide your hair into 3 strands and braid until you get half way down!

Step 3: Transition by pulling all of your hair together, then split in two chunks to start your fishtail braid.  {If you aren’t sure how to do a fishtail braid, I have a tutorial on my website.  Look in the “Hair” section.}

Step 4: Tie it off with a clear elastic.  Wrap some hair from the ponytail around the elastic and pin with a bobby pin!  Or don’t.  It’s pretty left alone as well.

Hey, I also wanted to tell you how much I absolutely love all of you guys that have followed and encouraged me ever since I began blogging.  I truly enjoy doing this from the bottom of my heart and have been thrilled to death to even have the opportunity.  This is 100% my passion and I enjoy learning new tricks along the way that I can bring to all of you!  Thanks again and don’t ever hesitate to mention tutorials you would like to see or products you would like for me to blog about.  Love you all! =)

Volume Without The Teasing!

IMG_5408

Hey there!  A lot of girls have asked me what I do to get volume in my hair.  I used to tease mine to death until I realized one day that it was just breaking my hair and most of the time ended up looking unnatural and a bit of a rats nest at the end of the day/night.  I have also gotten to a point where I like the more natural look when it comes to hair.  Don’t get me wrong, pageant girl/prom hair is gorgeous for the occasion, just not an everyday/date night look (for me).  Because of this, I have pretty much done away with a flat iron and I pretty much just curl my hair with either hot rollers or a curling iron just once in between washes.  I never ever EVER tease my hair anymore.  I can’t stand what it does to my hair and can’t stand how it looks on me.  I teased for YEARS and I teased daily.  The hair gets knotted, you have to brush it out eventually which most likely is causing breakage AND not to mention your hair is probably breaking in the process of teasing.  If you are trying to grow your hair out I would just avoid it altogether.

Like with anything else, this may not work 100% on everyone’s hair.  So what’s is my hair like naturally?  My hair is thick – not overly thick and has quite a bit of body to it.  It’s not at all curly, however it is pretty wavy.  My hair does not curl naturally without using a curling iron.  However, I can curl my hair and it will pretty much hold for a long time unless it’s REALLY humid.  By really humid, I mean that my curls don’t fall unless I’m walking around outside in New Orleans.  If you have ever been there, you get my drift.  If I put a straightener to my hair, it gets board straight.  My hair is pretty versatile which is why I say that this may not work for the girls with the board straight hair that barely curls.  Sorry girlsss..

Below, I have placed a “Volume Without Teasing” tutorial to show you what I do daily to achieve a voluminous look without torturing my hair.  In the video below that one titled “Quick Volume”, I wanted to show you a really quick way to get volume back in your hair after it starts to fall while you are out during the day or on a hott date with your honey!

Steps To Volume Without Teasing:

Day 1 –

  1. After you shower, blow dry your hair upside down! You have to know this helps achieve a voluminous look by now.
  2. Put your favorite volumizing powder in your hair once it’s dry.  I use this product from Sally’s.
  3. Put in gigantic Velcro rollers.  Yes, the bigger the better!  You can purchase them pretty much anywhere.  I blow dry them for a few seconds.  The heat helps with the volume.  Leave them in about ~30 minutes.
  4. I take Velcro rollers out and run a curling iron through my hair. I skipped this in my tutorial because I already have a hair curling tutorial.
  5. Put in my hair extensions if I plan on wearing them that day.
  6. Before bed – I put my hair in a ponytail on top of my head, twist my hair, and wrap it into a bun around my ponytail holder.  You will see this in my tutorial.

Day 2 –

  1. Take my hair out of the bun, shake it out.
  2. I may put a few Velcro rollers in my hair and blowdry for just a second.
  3. Spray in my favorite dry shampoo.
  4. Put clip in hair extensions in and go!
  5. Before bed – Put hair back into bun like I did on Day 1.

Day 3 – Repeat Day 2

Here is a video that will help you visualize how I blow dry my hair, and what I do on Day 2 to get volume in my hair.

Here is a quick example of how I get volume back in my hair when I’m out and about during the day or at night.  I really just got a new video editing app on my phone and just wanted to use it ha!  This really is what I do though. =)

I hope this helps you find an alternative to teasing!  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail me at StunninglySouthern@gmail.com or comment.  See ya!

Love,

Whitney =)

Sideways French Twist + A Thought For Today

french twist 2 french twist

Hey Ladies!  I figured I would add something positive to the internet world today by adding a cute little hair tutorial for you beautiful ladies to try out.  At the end of this tutorial, I’ll add my little thought of the day on…you guessed it… Ashley Madison.  If you want to skip my thoughts on that dreaded topic, go right ahead and end your read at my YouTube video of my tutorial.  Oh and thank you “MCTY” for my fabulous top. You know who you are ;).  Enjoy!

Side French Ponytail – (If you know of a way to make my YouTube videos clearer, please let me know.  I have been taking them on my phone which is probably the problem, but if there is something I can do on the YouTube side – would love to know!)

This style is excellent for unwashed hair!  Here are the steps!

  1. Put dry shampoo in your hair then curl with a curling iron on lowest heat.
  2. Take all of your hair to one side of your head and tie off with a ponytail holder.
  3. Open up your hair above the ponytail holder and put the hair on the bottom over and bring through.
  4. Pull ponytail holder tight, then pull apart the hair in the twist.
  5. Pull out all of the pieces that you want and your done!

My Thought of the Day on Ashley Madison

Those of you that know me, know that one of my worst fears aside from something happening to my child or husband is being married with kids and being cheated on.  I’m sure many married men and women can relate.  Because of that fear for myself, the events that have happened due to the Ashley Madison hack have been heavy on my mind and my heart.  I am one of those individuals that will hear about something terribly tragic and it will literally keep me up at night.  Some of these things include: people I know or know of dying, cancer, wars overseas, politics, even thinking about countries that hate Americans keep me up at night!  I get caught up in the emotion of what other people are going through and feel, while imagining what I would feel in each of those situations and it ends up weighing so heavily on my heart.

My initial thought when my husband told me about the hack was, “Good!  That’s exactly what those idiots deserve!”.  After I lovingly asked my husband if he was on this list because I could now easily find it if he was, I pulled up the released list for myself and began to aimlessly scroll through it.  It only took seeing one name I so much as recognized (don’t even know personally) and knew they had a wife and kids to literally make my heart palpitate and make my stomach churn.  My initial actions to the Ashley Madison hack were knee-jerk reactions to the situation without thinking in depth about the future outcomes of it.

Let me go ahead and make myself clear.  Do I for one second feel sorry for those individuals who were stupid enough to sign up for a service such as this?  NO.  I would like to think divorce is off the table in a marriage, but why an individual can’t simply ask for a divorce if he or she wants it instead of going behind their spouse’s back, cheating, and taking their disgusting germs back to their spouse is beyond me.  (Yes, germs disgust me and I wash my hands like a doctor).  So in one way am I happy these people were caught?  Well, for their spouse’s sake, yes.  Do I think it’s ok for people all over social media to be making a game out of catching names on the list they recognize?  NO.  NO.  NO!

I looked at my child today and thought to myself, “There is another baby boy or girl out there who’s whole world is about to be turned upside down and inside out because of this”.  Not only that, there are men and women who are having to find out about this from a published list.  Their entire worlds coming crashing down before their eyes, and there are actually people out there making a game and a joke about this.  I would love to ask those people who are posting these lists everywhere one question.  Is there a list out there that if it was hacked could bring your entire world upside down?

A friend from college shared on Facebook yesterday afternoon very insightfully said, “We all have our Ashley Madison’s.  Be careful when casting your stone from your glass house”.  She’s right – we all do.  Whether it’s lying, stealing, alcoholism, drug addiction, hate, porn, envy, lust, etc… Everyone has something.  There are people committing suicide over this – families breaking, kids about to have to split households…  What we SHOULD be doing instead of posting these lists everywhere and getting excited about “catching” someone you know on it is praying for these people on the list, AND those who have a spouse on there.  Pray for those people on that list and give them an opportunity to turn their lives around instead of making them dread the rest of their life.

***Whitney’s thought of the day is done.  Be kind.  Use your brain.  Worry about yourself.  Peace.***

On another note, how awesome was the Fear The Walking Dead premier last night? OMG =) !!!

Get This Casual Look Now!

casual

Get this casual go-to look for the day before you want to wash your hair, but have somewhere to go.  You know what I mean?  It’s like.. your hair is to the point where you really just want to go ahead and wash it but you don’t NEED to, and you have somewhere you have to be and must look presentable.  This look is easy!  Follow along…

  1. Apply dry shampoo to your hair!  I sometimes even apply a hint of baby powder.  I’m blonde so it’s ok.
  2. Curl your hair in BIG sections on the lowest heat your curling iron has, then brush it out!
  3. Take the section of your hair that you want to pin up.  Don’t try to make it look perfect.  This look is not polished in any way!
  4. Put the section into a bun and put a ponytail holder around it.
  5. Wrap the extra hair around the bun on top of your hair and pin with bobby pins.
  6. Put on your favorite must-have tee, some distressed jeans, and your favorite fringe booties or sandals and go! ❤

Dutch Pigtail Tutorial

Hey there!

It’s been so long since I have done a hair tutorial, so this one may be a little rough! But hey, it’s still helpful in my opinion =).

This is such a great look for Summer. It helps get your hair out of your face, but it’s more fun than a bun or ponytail! My little boy loves it as well. He thinks they are so fun and enjoys pulling the mess out of them!

Here are the steps to achieving this look:

1. I was going on about 3-day-old hair when I filmed this, so I had applied LOTS of dry shampoo to cover up the grease, but it also kept the braid intact. I don’t recommend styling your hair like this on the same day that you washed your hair. It won’t hold as well! I have done this look with extensions and without. It’s so cute both ways!

2. Part your hair to the side or the middle. It looks good either way =). Your part does not have to be perfect! I think a messy style looks best!

3. Start with the side you are most comfortable with and take a chunk of hair close to your part.

4. Divide that hair into three sections.

5. Take the section closest to your forehead and cross it underneath the middle strand.

6. Take the section on the other side and cross it underneath the middle strand.

7. Now start incorporating hair outside of the braid on both sides. Make sure to include all of your hair by the time you get to the base of your skull.

8. Once at the base of the skull, do a normal 3-strand braid and tie off with a clear elastic.

9. Repeat the exact same thing on the other side!

10. Pull apart the braid (if you want to) at the very end.

Hope you loved this! There are so many adorable styles of pigtail braids out there! I love this one to death so I thought I would show you all! Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook at “Stunningly Southern” and on my re-named Instagram page, @stunninglysouthern!

No Heat, Beach Waves

IMG_0906Ok, this is the quickest AND easiest way to get natural looking beach waves without having to use a curling iron or straightener.  To achieve this look that I did today I followed these steps:

1. I put Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil in my hair ~ 30 minutes before showering.

2. Let it dry best you can before going to bed.

3. Put in a tight French braid and go to bed.  {See tight French Braid in pic below}

french braid

4. Wake up, take down braid, and let dry.

5. Apply Beyond The Zone Rock On Volumizing Powder at the roots and throughout hair.

6. Style, and go!

This style is so easy, and is damage-free, and helps create the perfect, messy beach wave look!  If you try it, tag me so I can see how gorgeous you look! =)

Hair Curling Tutorial For Loose Curls

IMG_0061 IMG_0079 IMG_0103

Top: Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique – Use Promo Code “LOOKSTUNNING” for 10% off your ENTIRE PURCHASE now-Sunday

Are you one of those girls that can’t quite get their hair to curl right no matter how many different types of curling irons you use or how many times you try?  If so, this tutorial at the bottom of this post is just for you =).  Be sure to take advantage of this exclusive offer from Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique!

I have literally been fixing my hair since elementary school.  I used to cut it and style it by myself.  Every time my mom would fix it, I would take it down and re-do it all over again!  It was funny that I did that because my mom always made it look SO cute!  She would braid it, curl it, put it in a French twist, and so much more!  Needless to say, I have been fixing my hair and playing with different styles my whole life.  Those of you that know me well, know this about me!

Girls have always asked me how I curl my hair, so I decided to do a little tutorial for you today.  Hopefully this will help you girls that need it!

This is a tutorial for loose, long, curls only.  I will do a tutorial in the future showing you how to get a tighter, more glamorous curl! So, here are the steps:

1. Brush hair out.

2. Section off bottom first.

3. Curl with 1 1/2 in. curling iron and leave very bottom of hair out of the curling iron. (Gives it a more beachy wave look)

4. Take the curl and pin to the head with a bobby pin.

5. Continue this throughout the hair, then immediately take out the bobby pins.

6. Brush out the curl, then set with hairspray (optional).  I don’t use hairspray because I don’t want a “styled” look for this type of curl.

**** Exclusive to my readers ONLY: You can get this adorable top from Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique now through Sunday for 10% off!  You don’t JUST get 10% off this top, you can use it on your ENTIRE purchase!  All you have to do is use Promo code: LOOKSTUNNING.  Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique has so much to choose from to complete your Spring attire!  Take advantage of this  offer while you can! ****

My Biggest and Best Hair Secret

Extensions

Hair Extentions: Sally’s Beauty Supply

So… Do you know what it is?  Those that know me well know, those that ask know, professionals probably know, but do you?  Is my hair REALLY that long and thick?  Heck no!  I wish.  If this is a shock to you that I wear hair extensions…sorry!  Almost every girl does something to enhance at least one feature on their body.  Makeup to enhance facial features, eyelash extensions, Botox to hide fine lines and wrinkles, boob jobs… I get hair extensions!  I mean, I love trying different hairstyles on my hair as well as on others so, naturally, if my hair isn’t as long as I want it for certain styles or looks I am going for I’m going to use extensions!  I got some last October and have been hooked ever since.  My hair is not short by any means, but they help my braids become longer and fuller, and I sometimes just like the look of super long hairstyles!

My hair has never been as long as I wanted it to be because I always get bored with it after a while and cut it off to match the latest short style that’s “in” at the moment.  This has actually been the longest that I have been without chopping off my locks in a while, but it’s still not as long as I want it to be.  I always thought that I needed to get a good trim every 10 weeks to keep my hair healthy, so that is what I have always done.  Trimming that often may be a good idea for those who wash their hair every day, blow dry, curl, straighten… whatever!  However, those that don’t damage their hair to that extent do not necessarily need to trim that often!  I haven’t gotten a trim since October and my hair is still good to go.  My tips are: eat healthy, drink water, take your vitamins, don’t wash your hair every day, and DEEP CONDITION LADIES.

Tips for applying and using your hair extensions:

1. They usually blend better with wavy or curled hair.  You can also straighten, just make sure you put them in PERFECTLY and that the color matches your own color exactly.

2. Use the two smaller wefts on the bottom of your head and the two bigger wefts near the top.

3. Don’t wash them often.  When you do wash them, let them air dry.

4. You can use curling irons and straighteners on them, but don’t use the highest heat.

5. Don’t brush them out with anything other than a hair extension brush.  You can find one here.

I use the 18 in. Remy Straight Clip-In extensions in Cool Blonde at Sally’s Beauty Supply.  They blend so well with my highlights!

Easy Headband Braid – Perfect For Festival Season!

Festival Hair

Hello ladies and gents! I learned how to do this quick and easy headband braid recently and I just can’t get enough of it.  There are WAY more difficult ways to do this, but this look is so pretty and you can’t beat the simplicity of it.  So, to all of you ladies going to JazzFest or your favorite festival this weekend, try this one out!  Make sure you tag me to it so I can see how awesome you look! =)

Easy Boho Headband Braid:

1. You can part your hair anyway you want!  Just make sure it’s brushed out.

2. Use volumizing powder if you wish, I use this product.

3. Take a chunk of hair right underneath your ear on whichever side you wish to begin.

4. Do a simple, 3 strand braid down the hair and tie off with a clear elastic.

5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 on the opposite side.

6. Pull apart the braid (if you want). Or don’t, whatever works =).

7. Take one braid and pull over your head whichever way looks best to you! In the video, I attempt to show you 2 ways: over all of your hair and with some hair left out.

8. Repeat step 7 with the other braid. I like to pull it beside the first braid to give myself a double-braided look.

9. Smooth out hair and leave it down, or pull it up in an adorable ponytail like I have pictured above!

I hope you enjoy this tutorial!  I am slowly getting in new equipment to make them better and better.  Hopefully soon I will have a new camera so I can give you a higher quality tutorial to watch instead of my iPhone videos!  LOL!  If you have any questions, feel free to message me at StunninglySouthern@gmail.com.
